Students to apply for a VISA (most often VISA D) needs a confrimation from the secretary that they are officially enrolled to the studies at our University. More:

Employees also need confirmation. It can be done in few different ways:

  1. Confrirmation signed by a Rector. This document is issue together with CSO based on the “Wniosek o zatrudnienie” - work VISA (no. 6)
  2.  Signed a pre-job contract between the University and the scientist – only when the VISA purpose is to conduct research (no. 13)

We also tried to get a work VISA with the offer letter signed by the PI, Director and Dean with all of the details regarding the salary, insurance, scope of work, dates etc. It worked in our case  in 2019 and 2020. However it is good to verify that with a consuulate, whether it’s still possible.

Scientists don’t need to apply for work permit.

“Ponadto zatrudnianie cudzoziemców z krajów trzecich w publicznych jednostkach naukowych (uczelniach, Polskiej Akademii Nauk, instytutach naukowych PAN, instytutach badawczych, instytutach Sieci Badawczej Łukasiewicz, Centrum Łukasiewicz, międzynarodowych instytutach naukowych oraz w Polskiej Akademii Umiejętności (PAU)) do realizacji zadań związanych z kształceniem i prowadzeniem działalności naukowej nie wymaga uzyskania zezwolenia na pracę.

Podstawa prawna: art. 325 Ustawy z dnia 20 lipca 2018 r. Prawo o szkolnictwie wyższym i nauce”

However, foreigners needs to buy a health insurance by itself for that time. After starting a job at the University, the health insurance will be cover from his/her salary.
